Cannes 2012: Sales Success For Kurdish Drama ‘Bekas’
COLOGNE - TrustNordisk has locked up multiple territories for the Kurdish drama Bekas, the debut feature from director Karzan Kader, inking sales with Arrow Films for the U.K., Rialto Distribution in Australian/New Zealand and Cineart for Benelux after screening the film’s trailer to buyers in Cannes.
The feature is set in early 1990s Iraq. It’s the story of two homeless Kurdish boys who sneak out to see the film Superman. Inspired, they hatch a plot to escape to America. On a donkey.
Sweden’s Sonet Film produced Bekas. Sonet’s Sandra Harms, one of the European talents picked at the Producer on the Move event in Cannes this year, was lead producer on the film, with Peter Possne executive producing. Bekas will bow theatrically in Sweden this November.
Other deals Trust closed for Bekas in Cannes include for Israel (Lev Films), South Korea (Sonamu Pictures) Taiwan (Serenity Entertainment) and Falcon Films (Middle East).
