Cannes 2012: Warner Does Digital Deal With Australia's Odin's Eye
Warner Bros. Digital Distribution will handle VOD and electronic sell through for Odin's Eye titles in North America.
CANNES - Warner Bros. Digital Distribution has signed a deal with Australian producer/distributor Odin's Eye Entertainment (OEE) that will see WBDD take on Odin's Eye titles for electronic sell through and video on demand in North America. The agreement is non-exclusive but ODE expects Warner to handle around 20 films a year under the deal, with the first titles slated for released in June this year.
The agreement kicks off with Inseparable, a comedy thriller from director Dayyan Eng which stars Kevin Spacey and Daniel Wu.
ODE and Warner Bros. have agreed on a total of six titles for release across the summer. They include Salute, Matt Norman's documentary about the Tommie Smith and John Carlos' legendary Black Power salute at the 1968 Mexico Olympics, which WBDD will bow timed to the London Olympics.
“This deal is the centerpiece of our U.S. strategy, and a huge coup for both OEE and our producers,” said OEE founder Michael Favelle. “Warner Bros. Digital Distribution is amongst the best in the game and with their complete digital footprint our films will be in safe and experienced hands. While many films we represent will follow the traditional sales model, this deal gives us increased flexibility to secure the best financial return for our producing partners.”
Australian-based Odin’s Eye releases between six to eight film a year in Australia and New Zealand. Recent acquisitions include the 9/11 drama The Space Between featuring Melissa Leo and the Rob Schneider-directed comedy The Chosen One which stars Schneider, Steve Buscemi and Holland Taylor. The company also boasts a back catalogue of some 40 titles.
