Conquistador Entertainment has closed multiple international presales for drama The Phenom, including for Latin America, Australia and Canada, based on a promo reel shown in Cannes.
Directed by Noah Bushel (The Missing Person), The Phenom stars Johnny Simmons as a talented young athlete, the phenom of the title, who struggles to deal with his abusive father. played by Ethan Hawke. Paul Giamatti plays a therapist who helps the boy deal with his inner demons and learn to perform again on the field.
The film was snatched up in several territories, including Sun Distribution for Latin America, Transmission for Australia, D-Film for Canada and Eagle Films for the Middle East.
Produced by Elephant Eye Films in association with Media House Capital, The Phenom is currently in postproduction.
Conquistador, the sales outfit launched by market veteran Pascal Borno, blasted out of the gate in Cannes last year with Cake, the drama from director Daniel Barnz, which nabbed a Golden Globe nomination for star Jennifer Aniston.
Conquistador's Cannes lineup this year includes Odyssea 3D, an underwater documentary from Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of legendary deep-sea filmmaker Jacques Cousteau, and Parlor, the directorial debut of filmmaker Devon Downs.
