Cannes Best-Dressed of the Day: We Heart Tilda Swinton's Embellished Frock
Wearing her heart on her sleeve.
The Dress: A pleated, printed "pierced heart" silk dress by Schiaparelli that was also embroidered with a bedazzled heart embellishment.
The Wearer: Tilda Swinton.
The Event: The Cannes Film Festival's Hollywood Foreign Press Association party, where the Okja actress was joined by Molly Sims, Lily Collins and Jake Gyllenhaal. The event benefited the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a nonprofit organization that responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
Why It Matters: With her proclivity for the avant garde, it's always a joy anticipating what Swinton will wear next. And the star didn't disappoint when she stepped out in this unique daytime ensemble, a heart-printed navy Schiaparelli dress, complete with a sparkly heart embellishment on the chest and matching red suede sandals with a heart-shaped strap design. Though the look isn't quite as over the top as some of her more daring red-carpet looks, the dedication to the "heart" theme from head to toe is quintessentially Swinton (and Elsa Schiaparelli, who loved the symbol and used it as a recurring motif in her designs).
Over the past few years, Schiaparelli has slowly but surely been making a red-carpet comeback under designer Bertrand Guyon. Having only just relaunched in 2013, the Italian fashion house has found favor with stars like Swinton, who prefer to pack a bit more punch on the carpet, as well as Gywneth Paltrow, whose style skews more traditional.
