Cannes: Amanda Seyfried Joins Daniel Radcliffe in Karl Rove Movie
The 'Les Miserables' star boards the buddy movie from StarStream Media that reunites director John Krokidas and his 'Kill Your Darlings' leads.
Amanda Seyfried is joining Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan in Young Americans, an indie buddy movie about a young Karl Rove running a dirty 1970s campaign to be campus Republican chairman under manager Lee Atwater.
Seyfried will play Kate King, a young femme fatale who secretly attempts to beat Rove, played by DeHaan, and Atwater (Radcliffe) at their own game of dirty tricks and politics. StarStream Media will finance and produce Young Americans, formerly called College Republicans.
John Krokidas is directing based on a 2010 Black List script by Wes Jones. The project is from the team behind Kill Your Darlings, which starred Radcliffe and DeHaan and was directed by Krokidas.
Kill Your Darlings premiered at Sundance in 2013 to strong reviews, helping Krokidas to make a name for himself and get several more projects, including Lionsgate's YA adaptation Wonder.
XYZ Films is handling international sales, starting in Cannes. Bruce Cohen and Liz Destro of Destro Films are producing alongside Kim Leadford of StarStream and Frank Frattaroli of Circle of Confusion.
"We loved their 1940s aesthetic in Kill Your Darlings and are looking forward to watching them build the look of the '70s, which is one of the coolest eras, in my opinion," said Leadford in a statement Friday. UTA Independent packaged the film and will be representing North America.
Production on Young Americans will start in fall 2015.
