The traditional Sunday ceremony will be held a day early so as not to conflict with nationwide elections.

PARIS -- Cannes winners will be announced on Saturday night instead of the traditional Sunday night ceremony this year, so as not to conflict with the European Parliament elections that are taking place across Europe over the weekend and in France on May 25.

The Palme d'Or and other main jury prizes will be announced during the Saturday night ceremony. Because of the change, the final competition film will be screened Friday, with the jury convening Saturday to make their final decision.

Because of the schedule change, the prizes for the Un Certain Regard sidebar will be bumped up a night as well, to a Friday night fete, with the Cinefondation ceremony taking place Saturday afternoon.

The winners of Un Certain Regard award will be announced in the evening of Friday, May 23, and the Cinéfondation awards will be held the same afternoon, as usual.

The festival will close with a screening of the Palme d’Or-winning film in the Grand Palais on Sunday night.

The festival will be held May 14-25 in Cannes.
