CANNES -- Djimon Hounsou, who is in Cannes for the premiere of How to Train Your Dragon 2, and Pitch Perfect actress Alexis Knapp have been cast as the stars of post-apocalyptic film One.

The film, written and directed by Murali Thalluri, is co-produced and co-financed by Main Street Films with Thalluri for MK Create and Kent Smith for the Kojo Group. Greig Buckle of Enigma Pictures is co-producing. Kathy Morgan International is handling international sales.

One, the first film to be produced under the South African and Australian co-production treaty launched in 2011, is set in a world where a virus has wiped out 99 percent of humanity, leaving those who have survived divided into separate racial groups all fighting each other to find a cure to help their own.

Lone Survivor actor Sammy Sheik has also joined the cast in a supporting role.

Production is scheduled to begin in 2014 on location in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa.

“We've assembled a very talented cast and crew who have elevated the vision beyond what I alone could imagine. This team is greater than the sum of its parts. I’m excited,” said Thalluri, whose directorial debut 2:37 premiered at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.

Oscar-nominated Hounsou will next be seen in the Dragon sequel and Fast & Furious 7. He's repped by CAA, The Safran Company and Sloane, Offer.

Knapp recently starred in the hit comedy Pitch Perfect, and will next be seen in The Anomaly, starring Brain Cox and Liam Hemsworth. She's repped by CAA.

Sheik, whose past work includes Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Charlie Wilson's War, will next appear in American Sniper. He's repped by Hervey/Grimes Talent Agency and Cheri Barner Management.
