Viktor Jakovleski's film will be released theatrically later this year.

Oscilloscope has picked up North American rights to Viktor Jakovleski’s Brimstone & Glory, a documentary about the annual fireworks displays at the National Pyrotechnic Festival in Tultepec, Mexico. The distributor is planning a theatrical release later this year for the film that premiered at this year’s True/False Film Festival.

The film was produced by Dan Janvey, Elizabeth Lodge Stepp, Kellen Quinn, Affonso Goncalves, Benh Zeitlin, Casey Coleman, Antonio 'Tonitzin' Gomez, Jakovleski and Erdem Karahan. It was funded by Cinereach and is a Court 13 and Department of Motion Pictures production. The film was edited by Goncalves and scored by Dan Romer and Zeitlin, the creative team behind Beasts of the Southern Wild.

"Brimstone & Glory is not just an epic feast for the eyes and the ears (though it is that), it’s a brilliant display of portraiture. It introduces us to people and a community — intimately, intensely and beautifully — and sets the stage for a long career for Viktor. I have no doubt this is just the beginning,” O-Scope’s Dan Berger said.

Mongrel International is selling international rights.

The deal marked the third Cannes acquisition for Oscilloscope, which also acquired rights to Beauty and the Dogs and Bobbi Jene.
