Cannes: Focus Features Acquires North American Rights to 'Bastille Day'
CANNES -- In another U.S. deal at the Cannes Film Market, Focus Features has prebought North American distribution rights to Bastille Day.
Idris Elba and Adele Exarchopoulos are set to star in the thriller, with James Watkins attached to direct from a script by Andrew Baldwin. The Paris-set film centers on a rogue CIA agent who teams up with an American con artist to stop a terror attack in France.
The project is being produced by Philippe Rousselet via his Vendome Pictures banner, along with Steve Golin, David Kanter, and Bard Dorros for Anonymous Content. Filming begins later this summer.
Studiocanal, which is financing the film, is handling international sales and will distribute it in France, the U.K., Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
Beth Lemberger, Focus Features’ executive VP of business affairs, negotiated the deal with Anna Marsh, head of international sales for Studiocanal.
