Cannes: Fox Searchlight Nabs Paolo Sorrentino's 'Youth' for North America
The movie, starring Michael Caine and Jane Fonda, premieres in competition at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
Getting a jump on the action, Fox Searchlight is closing in on a deal for North American rights to Youth, the second English-language film from acclaimed Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is set to premiere in competition at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The movie is Sorrentino's follow up to The Great Beauty (2013), and stars Michael Caine, Rachel Weisz, Paul Dano, Jane Fonda and Harvey Keitel.
In 2013, Great Beauty went on to win the Academy Award for best foreign-language film after playing in Cannes. Sorrentino, a festival favorite, also competed for the Palme d’Or with The Consequences of Love, The Family Friend, Il Divo, which won for the Jury Prize, and This Must Be the Place.
Youth stars Michael Caine as a retired orchestra conductor, with a much buzzed-about performance by Jane Fonda.
Searchlight is negotiating the deal with Pathe.
