Cannes Hit 'Toni Erdmann' to Open Munich Film Festival
Maren Ade's comedy about a strained father-daughter relationship stars Peter Simonischek and Sandra Huller.
Maren Ade's Toni Erdmann, the German comedy that was an audience hit at the Cannes film festival, will open this year's Munich International Film Festival.
While the comedy, about a prankster father who tries to reconnect with his overly serious workaholic daughter, was snubbed by the Cannes jury, it was universally praised, winning the international film critics' FIPRESCI prize for best film.
Toni Erdmann will open the 2016 Munich Film Festival on June 23 and will have a special public screening June 24. The movie opens nationwide in Germany on July 14. Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the film for U.S. release.
