Cannes: Martin Scorsese to Exec Produce Josh and Benny Safdie’s 'Uncut Gems'
The brothers recently wrapped production on 'Good Time,' which stars Robert Pattinson.
Martin Scorsese's Sikelia Prods. is teaming with Brazilian financier RT Features to bring Josh and Benny Safdie’s Uncut Gems to the big screen.
RT Features and Elara Pictures will produce, with Scorsese and Sikelia’s Emma Tillinger Koskoff serving as executive producers.
The film's logline is being kept under wraps. The Safdies, who wrote the Uncut Gems screenplay with Ronald Bronstein, recently wrapped production on Good Time, which stars Robert Pattinson.
“I’m delighted to be working with RT to support a new generation of filmmakers,” Scorsese said Monday in a statement. “The Safdie Brothers bring an exciting new perspective and tremendous vitality to their storytelling."
Added RT Features’ Teixeira: “I’m very excited to be a part of this project. It's a great script and an amazing team behind it. I'm positive that Josh and Benny will do a fantastic job. Just by watching what they've done so far it's clear to me that they are unique filmmakers."
The deal was locked here in Cannes. WME Global, which secured the financing, will begin introducing the project at the ongoing Cannes film market.
Scorsese has been sparking headlines at the market. Over the weekend, STX Entertainment paid $50 million for international rights to his next film, The Irishman.
RT Features has been producing films and TV series in Brazil since 2005 and ventured into the U.S. market in 2008, financing development and producing such films as Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha as well as Robert Eggers’ The Witch. Recently, the company produced Gaspar Noe's Love and James Schamus' Indignation. RT’s upcoming slate includes James Gray's Ad Astra and the David Seidler-penned The Games of 1940.
Sikelia typically produces projects that Scorsese is involved with as a director. Uncut Gems would be something of a departure.
Scorsese is repped by WME and LBI Entertainment. The Safdies are handled by WME and Lichter Grossman.
