Cannes: Oscilloscope Laboratories Takes U.S. Rights to Sophia Takal's 'Always Shine'
The film stars Mackenzie Davis and Caitlin FitzGerald as two actresses whose friendship unravels.
Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired U.S. rights to Sophia Takal’s Always Shine, which recently debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it earned Mackenzie Davis the award for best actress in a U.S. narrative film.
The movie stars Davis and Caitlin FitzGerald as two friends who head to Big Sur for a getaway weekend during which their jealousies and resentments bubble to the surface.
Always Shine was produced by Takal, Lawrence Michael Levine and Pierce Varous. Visit Films, which made the deal with Oscilloscope, is handling worldwide sales at Cannes.
“Sophia has created a haunting thriller about obsession, fame and femininity to rival the likes of the pinnacle films of that ilk," O-Scope’s Dan Berger said of the film. "It has shades of Polanski and Bergman and yet it never ceases to be its own, wholly unique and authentic work.”
