Cannes: America Ferrera's Red Carpet Prankster Evades Jail
After disrupting the Grammys and the SAG Awards, Vitalii Sediuk dove under America Ferrera’s gown at the Cannes premiere of "How to Train Your Dragon 2."
CANNES -- Following pranks that disrupted the Grammys and the SAG Awards, notorious red-carpet crasher Vitalii Sediuk brought his act to Cannes, diving under America Ferrera's gown as she posed for a photo at the How to Train Your Dragon 2 premiere on Friday.
After the attack, Sediuk was tackled by festival security.
Director Dean DeBlois told partygoers later that night that Sediuk had been "hauled off to jail," but multiple inquiries with local police turned up no record of him being booked or spending the night behind bars.
Sediuk, a sometime-journalist for Ukraine TV station 1Plus1, did have a valid press pass to access the carpet, according to festival organizers.
After his Grammys stage rush in 2013, during an acceptance speech by British singer Adele, Sediuk is persona non grata at L.A. Live, and he now can add Cannes to the list. His press credentials were revoked, and he will be barred from future festivals, organizers say.
This latest move may have repercussions for his news channel. Natali Pisnaya, a presenter for the Kiev-based TV broadcaster, declined comment, but Oleksandra Mykolyshyn, Ukrainian pavilion coordinator at Cannes, says there are fears the channel has overstepped the mark this time. "We've heard that they are in urgent talks to ensure it does not cost their entire Cannes team their accreditation to the festival," she told THR.
The professional stuntmaker also attempted to kiss Will Smith at a premiere in 2012 and tackled Bradley Cooper at the SAG Awards earlier this year.
