Cannes: Richard Gere Drama 'The Dinner' Picked Up by The Orchard
Written and directed by Oren Moverman, the film also stars Steve Coogan, Laura Linney, Rebecca Hall, Chloe Sevigny and Adepero Oduye.
The Orchard has acquired North American rights to Oren Moverman’s upcoming film The Dinner.
Written by Moverman, the drama thriller stars Richard Gere, Steve Coogan, Laura Linney, Rebecca Hall, Chloë Sevigny and Adepero Oduye.
Based on Herman Koch’s international best-seller, the story follows two families struggling to make the hardest decisions of their lives — all over the course of one meal — and explores just how far parents will go to protect their children.
The Dinner is currently in postproduction, and The Orchard is eyeing a fall release.
Cotty Chubb, Lawrence Inglee, Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev produced the film. Executive producers include Leonid Lebedev, Angel Lopez, Olga Segura and Eva Daniels.
“The Dinner represents an amazing opportunity for us to not only work with and develop a new relationship with Oren, a truly gifted writer/director, but also to forge new partnerships with the teams at Code Red, ChubbCo and Blackbird,” said Paul Davidson, The Orchard’s executive vp film and television. “We were all in from the moment we read Oren’s stellar script and can’t wait for audiences to experience it coming to life in theaters this fall.”
Added Moverman: “It’s an honor and a privilege for our filmmaking family to be working with The Orchard and their innovative team to bring this extraordinary book to the screen.”
The deal marks the second film picked up by The Orchard at Cannes. The distributor also acquired North American rights to Pablo Larrain's Neruda.
The deal was negotiated by WME Global and CAA on behalf of the filmmakers.
