Cannes: Amy Winehouse Doc to Be Given Special Screening

The midnight screening will get musical support from Universal.

Asif Kapadia’s documentary on the late English singer Amy Winehouse is set to get a midnight screening at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Festival organizers revealed that the film would be screened alongside a “musical accompaniment” from her record label, Universal.

The film was acquired by A24 for North American rights. It is set to bow in the U.K. on July 3, less than a month shy of the fourth anniversary of the singer’s death.

The first one-minute long trailer for the documentary debuted at Universal Music Group’s pre-Grammy brunch in February.

Winehouse, who rose to international fame with her second album, Back to Black, died on July 23, 2011, from alcohol poisoning.
