Cannes: Winnie The Pooh Creator Biopic Hits Market
A biopic of A A Milne, the Winnie the Pooh creator, is being mounted by Pinewood Films' Steve Christian and producer Damian Jones, whose resume includes Meryl Streep's Oscar winning turn in The Iron Lady.
Named Goodbye Christopher Robin, the period drama will detail the relationship between writer Milne and his son. The two form their relationship as the writer comes up with one of the world's most famous children’s book character Winnie the Pooh.
Simon Vaughan, the TV guru behind the Tom Stoppard's Parade's End for the BBC and Julian Fellowes' Titanic, has penned the script.
The script, which has no cast and is not fully financed, is looking for cash from investors during the Cannes market before it begins casting.
Pinewood, which has access to the Isle of Man’s $38 million Media Development Fund, has signed up a main backers on the project.
It is due to shoot in the UK and on the Isle of Man in summer 2014.
A A Milne and his characters Winnie-the-Pooh, Christopher Robin, Tigger, Eyeore, Piglet and Roo have featured in a slew of Hollywood and independent films and TV properties.
