CanWest takes productions in-house

Says farewell to Cinevillage studio in Toronto

TORONTO -- CanWest MediaWorks will stop producing TV shows at the Cinevillage studio in Toronto in May as it takes its production in-house, the Canadian broadcaster said Monday.

As part of a cost-cutting program, Christine McGinley, senior vp operations at Toronto-based CanWest, said that "studio production has decreased in popularity" and that the broadcaster will now use its own studio space.

Cinevillage, which is owned and operated by Toronto Film Studios, was used by CanWest for such TV dramas as "Traders" and lifestyle series including "The Mom Show" and "House and Home."
