Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift Lead CMT Awards Nominations
This year’s crop of country contenders were announced Monday on NBC’s “Today” show.
Ladies are leading the way this year, with Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift topping the 2012 CMT Awards Nominees list.

American Idol alum Underwood scored five nominations on Monday morning when the country contenders were announced on NBC’s Today show. Lambert follows with four nominations – two for her solo work and two for her side project, the Pistol Annies – while Taylor Swift leads a contingent of artists earning three nominations each.
Among the others vying for three awards at the Nashville ceremony are Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Rascall Flatts, Blake Shelton, Thompson Square and The Civil Wars, who received two nominations for “Safe & Sound,” their Hunger Games soundtrack collaboration with Swift.

Husband and wife duo Shelton and Lambert will face off in the evening's top category of Video of the Year. Shelton is nominated for his cover of "God Gave Me You" while Lambert is up for her heartbreak anthem "Over You," which was co-written by the couple.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of the show, which will air live from the heart of country music on June 6 on CMT and CMT.com. Fans can vote for the winners now through June 4 by clicking here or via the CMT Insider app.
