Casey Affleck Joins Independent Film Festival Boston as Creative Advisor (Exclusive)
He'll be on hand at this year's edition of the festival, which runs April 24-30.
Casey Affleck has signed on as creative advisor of the Independent Film Festival Boston, contributing to programming decisions and reaching out to talent and filmmakers. He'll also help coordinate the festival's local charitable efforts, among other duties.
Affleck and his brother, Ben Affleck, grew up in Cambridge, Mass., part of the Greater Boston area, and have strong ties to the city.
"I look forward to helping the festival showcase new, exciting work,” Affleck said. “The independent film community has given me the opportunity to experiment as an actor and a filmmaker and to find an audience for films that I am deeply proud of. I hope I can help IFFBoston continue its growth as a world-class film festival."
"I would also like to work with IFFBoston to find new ways of integrating itself year-round into the Greater Boston arts community; bringing the festival into schools and neighborhoods that might benefit from it," he continued.
IFFBoston has shown two of Affleck's films in previous years; Steve Buscemi's Lonesome Jim and Michael Winterbottom's The Killer Inside Me.
“Casey has exemplified the kind of artistic and risk-taking choices in his work that we strive to champion each year at the festival, and we are very excited to welcome him into the IFFBoston team,” IFFBoston program director Adam Roffman said. “As we enter our second decade as a festival, we believe Casey’s experience, connections, and insights will prove invaluable to the growth and vitality of our organization.”
As part of his duties, Affleck will make a personal appearance at the festival. This year's edition runs April 24-30.
Affleck's acting credits include Ain't Them Bodies Saints, which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. IFC Films has snapped up U.S. rights to the indie pic.
