Laz Alonso recently landed a role in James Cameron's "Avatar" for 20th Century Fox and will roll around in "Dirty Sexy Money" for ABC. In "Avatar," he will play a native of an alien planet groomed to be the leader of the futuristic, Navi tribe as well as the promised mate to Neytiris (Zoe Saldana) until an Earthling comes along. In "Money," he will star opposite Billy Baldwin, Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland as a lawyer who describes himself as a "legal avenger." Alonso recently wrapped a starring role opposite Regina King in Screen Gems' "This Christmas" and appears opposite Elisha Cuthbert in "Captivity," directed by Roland Joffe and set for release this year. He is repped by Paradigm, Untitled and Stone Meyer Genow. … Newcomer Libby Mintz has booked a role in Morgan Creek's "Sydney White," which Universal is distributing. "Sydney," starring Amanda Bynes, is the college-set retelling of "Snow White." Mintz will play "the perfect blonde." This is her first acting job. Mintz is repped by Main Title, Stone Manners and Colden McKuin and Frankel. … Noah Segan ("Brick") has checked himself in for Lionsgate's "Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever," being directed by Ti West. In the sequel to the Eli Roth horror movie, Segan will play a dark, edgy character named John. Segan, repped by Untitled Entertainment and Talent Works, next appears in the indie feature "What We Do Is Secret," opposite Shane West and Bijou Phillips. … Jeremy Renner ("North Country") is set to star opposite Dallas Roberts in the indie film "Snapper." Jeff Balsmeyer ("Danny Deckchair") is directing. Renner will play the title character, known as "snapper" in high school for his snapping turtlelike ability to chomp down on an idea and never let go. Renner, who next stars in "28 Weeks Later," is repped by CAA and Untitled. … Olivia Thirlby has been cast opposite Ellen Page and Jennifer Garner in Mandate's "Juno," for director Jason Reitman. She will play the best friend of Page, who faces an unplanned pregnancy. Filming is under way in Vancouver. Thirlby's credits include "United 93" and a recurring role on NBC's "Kidnapped." She is repped by Gersh, Management 360, Jordan, Gill & Dornbaum and attorney Stewart Brookman. … Darrin DeWitt Henson is finding out that "A Good Man Is Hard to Find." In the indie feature written and directed by Leslie Small, Henson is a blue-collar Christian helping to put his wife through school as they struggle to reconcile their differing goals as she seeks a fancier lifestyle. The film is lensing in Louisiana. Henson, who appeared in "Stomp the Yard," is best known for his work as Lem Van Adams on the Showtime series "Soul Food." He also recently starred opposite Queen Latifah in HBO's "Life Support." Henson is repped by Innovative and Kritzer Levine Wilkins Entertainment.
