Cat Power/Coldplay Collaboration From Soundtrack to Zach Braff's 'Wish I Was Here' Debuts
A collaboration between Cat Power and Coldplay, unveiled today on NPR Music, forms the centerpiece and title track from the forthcoming Zach Braff-directed film and Columbia Records album, Wish I Was Here — Music From the Motion Picture.
The album showcases music hand-picked by Braff for his first movie since the critically acclaimed 2004 feature Garden State, whose soundtrack won a Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media in 2005 and went platinum with 1.3 million albums sold.
The Wish I Was Here soundtrack features new songs from The Shins — the band that changed Natalie Portman’s life in Garden State — (“So Now What”) and Bon Iver (“Heavenly Father”) in addition to tracks from The Head and the Heart (“No One to Let You Down”) and Hozier (“Cherry Wine”). The soundtrack will be available in stores and digitally next Tuesday, July 15, and on vinyl August 5.
Braff and brother Adam penned the original screenplay for Wish I Was Here after raising the money to make the film on Kickstarter. A success at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the new movie tells the story of what it means to be at a major crossroads as a parent, spouse and child — sometimes all at once. Focus Features will release the film in select cities on Friday, July 18, expanding to theaters across the country on Friday, July 25.
