CBC lite goes Heavy.com

Canuck B'casting Corp. pushing programming to webcaster

TORONTO -- The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. is pushing its increasingly light programming to Heavy.com.

Canadian webcaster Heavy.com has struck a distribution deal with the public broadcaster to feature celebrity-driven content from existing CBC shows on its ad-supported online video network.

The deal, which follows similar partnerships with the Fox Comedy Channel and the UFC: Ultimate Fighting Championships, will see Heavy.com stream CBC-produced movie reviews and celebrity gossip that targets the online video site's male-skewing 18-49 demo.

The CBC Video Channel is the latest move by the public broadcaster to produce lighter and more commercial programming to drive audience and ad revenue.
