CBS, Japan's Avex Ink Content Deal for Mobile VOD Service

CBS Studios International and Japan’s Avex Entertainment have agreed to an extension of their multi-year content licensing agreement to offer CBS original programming on Japanese cell phone carrier SoftBank’s video-on-demand service, UULA.

UULA was launched as a new joint venture between Avex and Softbank last year, offering Softbank smartphone and tablet customers an optional $5/month on-demand service for TV show and movie streaming.

“We’re excited to expand this content licensing agreement and provide UULA subscribers the flexibility to watch CBS programming on their mobile devices,” said Barry Chamberlain, Executive Vice President, CBS Studios International. “The international digital space continues to provide more choice for viewers and additive revenue opportunities for content providers.”

Under the new CBS-Avex deal, UULA will now include content from CBS’s library, such as early seasons of current hits NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and 90210, and full seasons of classic series including Star Trek, Star Trek: Enterprise, Medium and The 4400.
