Celestial opens new doors for Shaw library

45 new titles set for release in U.S., Canada

HONG KONG -- Celestial Pictures has agreed to home video distribution deals that will expand the reach of its Shaw Brothers classic movies in North America, the company said Wednesday.

Celestial signed with BCI, Media Blasters and Well Go USA to release a total of 45 martial arts titles in North America.

Existing U.S. distributors of Shaw Brothers classics include the Weinstein Co., Image Entertainment and Jaman.com.

Under the new deal, independent video and entertainment distributor BCI, a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed publisher and home entertainment distributor Navarre Corp., will release such titles as the female kung fu adventure "The Fourteen Amazons."

Media Blasters, a distributor of anime and Asian films, will release Chang Cheh's martial arts classic "The Heroic Ones" and "Brothers Five," while Well Go USA -- with outposts in the U.S., Taiwan and China -- will handle "Martial Club" and "Heroes Two," also by Chang Cheh.

Celestial now has 80 partnerships worldwide to distribute their Shaw Brothers film library via home video, online and theatrical releases.
