Celine Dion to Receive ICON Award, Perform at 2016 Billboard Music Awards
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards air live from Las Vegas on Sunday, May 22, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
Celine Dion will receive the ICON Award at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards, where she also will take the stage for a performance of Queen's "The Show Must Go On," it was announced Wednesday.
The legendary singer won't have to travel too far from her residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to pick up the honor and perform at the T-Mobile Arena just down the Las Vegas Strip. Previous winners of the ICON lifetime achievement award include Jennifer Lopez in 2014, Prince in 2013, Stevie Wonder in 2012 and Neil Diamond in 2011.
"Celine Dion has a huge repertoire of monster hits and she personally chose to perform 'The Show Must Go On' as her ICON performance on the Billboard Music Awards," said Mark Bracco, the show's executive producer. "I think at this moment in her life, the song has many meanings and it’s an amazing choice."
Over her three-decade singing career, Dion has had 17 albums on the Billboard 200 chart — including 12 top 10s and four No. 1s — selling almost 250 million albums. She holds the record for most No. 1s on the Adult Contemporary chart with 11 chart-topping songs. Dion also has earned five Grammy Awards and already has six Billboard Music Awards.
The 2016 Billboard Music Awards — hosted by BBMA vet Ludacris and first-time host Ciara and produced by Dick Clark Productions — will air live Sunday, May 22, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. In addition to Dion, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber and P!nk all will perform, with more performers to be announced in the coming weeks.
