CES: Samsung Highlights Ultra HD, Streaming Media Service Milk

The electronics giant unveiled a line of curved SUHD TVs

Samsung executives took the stage at its annual CES press conference to highlight the company's continued focus on Ultra HD technology. 

The Korean electronics giant unveiled during the hour-long event a new line of curved SUHD TVs. Made using Samsung's non crystal semiconductor technology, which allows for the expression of brighter colors. The sets star at 43 inches and get as large as 88 inches.

The SUHD TVs come powered by Tizen, an operating system that turns the sets into smart TVs with access to streaming video content, video games and a live TV second screen experience. 

Samsung also touted its involvement in the UHD Alliance that was announced Monday morning. "We have to make it easy for consumers to know which products and content will give them a true UHD experience," explained Samsung vp Joe Stinziano.  

In addition, Samsung announced an expansion of its multimedia service Milk, which began with Milk Music and later expanded to Milk Video, into virtual reality. The company in December launched the Gear VR headset and told the crowd that Milk VR would provide a steady stream of 360-degree video content for the device. 

Walking Dead exec producer David Alpert then took the stage to announce that his Skybound Entertainment would be working with Samsung to create a suspense thriller told entirely through VR. He noted: "VR allows us to push the boundaries and explore new way of engaging the audience."
