Chad Ochocinco scores reality show
VH1's 'Tournament' to star footballer in dating scenariosVH1 is getting back into the dating game.
The network is doing a reality show with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco where dates are ranked and compete like a sports bracket system.
Ochocinco will star in "The Tournament," with the NFL star traveling the country to meet 85 potential dates, then narrowing down the group to four women representing each of the Northern, Western, Southern and Central parts of the country. The final 16 chosen will then compete in "a tournament-style dating competition," with the women facing off against each other in double dates.
"Chad Ochocinco's bigger-than-life personality on and off the field and his notorious skills as a social networker, connecting daily with his fans, makes him a perfect fit for VH1," exec vp programming Jeff Olde said. "This show will not only give viewers a look inside his professional life but also reveal his softer, more romantic side when playing a very different kind of game."
VH1 has ordered 10 episodes from Juma Entertainment and 51 Minds. The deal reteams the network with 51 Minds, the producer of serveral of the net's previous dating shows, including "Megan Wants a Millionaire," which was involved in a scandal last year after casting Ryan Jenkins, who was later accused of killing his ex-wife.
In the wake of the scandal, the network declared it wanted to get away from dating shows.
