Champion Surfer "John John" Florence Debuts a New Movie and Matching Gear (Exclusive)
The world-ranked pipe-rider's 'View From a Blue Moon' is the inspiration behind the limited-edition clothing and accessories bundle.
At age 23, pro-surfer John Florence, aka John John, has already racked up some of the biggest accolades in his sport, from placing fourth for the world title in 2012 to winning the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing in 2011 and 2013. He’s not only a force to be reckoned with in the water, but on the silver screen, too, as seen in his latest film, View From a Blue Moon.
Directed by Blake Vincent Kueny (who also directed Done with Florence in 2013), the 60-minute cinematic masterpiece shot in 4k follows Florence and his surfer pals around the globe in search of the world’s best waves, from his native Hawaii to the coast of Africa. In addition to narration from actor John C. Reilly, the film also boasts a soundtrack that includes original music from Florence’s longtime pal Jack Johnson.
To commemorate the film’s digital release on Tuesday, Dec. 1, Florence has curated a limited-edition bundle featuring his favorite things and items from his sponsors tailored to the release of the film, including Hurley and Nixon.
"View From A Blue Moon was a three-year project; so my sponsors had time to create thoughtful products affiliated with the movie. These items also reflect essential gear that I wore during the filming," says Florence of the bundle, which includes a behind-the-scenes coffee-table tome, signature Hurley Phantom JJF II boardshorts, a custom-built Nixon watch, signature Stance socks, JJF Spy Optic sunglasses, a "View From a Blue Moon" Flexfit hat and a free movie download card courtesy of Monster Energy. "There’s a lot of black and camo in the pack, which is essentially what I am comfortable wearing," adds Florence. "I am always on the move and pack light. These items reflect my minimalistic approach and overall aesthetic."
The bundle, which retails for $500, is available for purchase online here, and all proceeds go towards causes close to Florence’s heart. "Hawaii’s North Shore of Oahu is my home and supporting programs that have helped me is something that I am very passionate about. Friends of Sunset Beach supports art programs in local schools, and North Shore Junior Lifeguards continues to create love and respect for the ocean for future generations. I am very thankful for these two programs," says Florence.
