Channel 5 continues executive clear-out

Head of news, director of children’s programming to leave

LONDON -- Channel 5 continued its executive clear-out Tuesday with the departure of long-time director of children's programming Nick Wilson and head of news Chris Shaw, who has been with the channel since its launch in 1997.

The departures are part of a voluntary redundancy program which will eventually see around 25% of the staff leave the station under new owner Richard Desmond, whose publishing empire Northern & Shell acquired the station in July.

Seven of Channel 5's nine senior directors were given notice within weeks of Desmond's acquisition, while chief executive and chairman Dawn Airey will leave later this month for a post at European broadcaster RTL Group, which sold the loss-making channel.
