'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' Grandpa David Kelly Dies

The actor, who appeared in Tim Burton’s 2005 remake, was 82-years-old.
Irish actor David Kelly, who appeared opposite Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has died.
Kelly was 82-years-old and perhaps best known for the role of Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton’s 2005 remake, but he was also a veteran actor of the stage and screen overseas. The Telegraph reports that Kelly died in a hospital following a short illness.
Kelly received a Screen Actors’ Guild nomination in 1998 for his role in Walking Ned Devine, in which the actor raced a motorcycle completely nude. In 2005, he was honored with the Irish Film and Television Awards’ lifetime achievement award.
The Dublin-born actor last appeared on screen in Matthew Vaughns’ 2007 film Stardust, in which he played an elderly guard tasked with preventing people from walking past a wall into a magical realm. Robert De Niro, Claire Danes and Ian McKellen also starred.
