Charlie Sheen to Appear at Insane Clown Posse's Gathering of the Juggalos
In its 12th year, the rap-themed festival will be held in Illinois over four days in August. On the bill: 20 acts including Busta Rhymes, Lil Jon and Flavor Flav. Sheen takes the stage on August 13.
The festival curated by Detroit's hip hop outcasts Insane Clown Posse has booked some 20 acts for its 12th annual Gathering of the Juggalos festival. Among them: Charlie Sheen, who'll take the stage on August 13. The gathering is held in the tiny town of Cave-in-Rock, Illinois from August 11 to 14 and also features Busta Rhymes, Lil Jon, Flavor Flav and Kottonmouth Kings on the bill.
A confab of like-minded "misunderstood, heavily tattooed young people from under-resourced neighborhoods who get together every year to smoke weed, drink cheap beer and cocktails of Faygo and grain alcohol, and live for four days and nights in an upside-down universe where Insane Clown Posse is the most popular band in the world," as aptly described by The Onion's AV Club, the GOJ attracted some 20,000 fans to its tenth anniversary celebration in 2009.
While attendance was down in 2010, the cult-like concerts have only gained in mythical status as cultural commentary hit a fever pitch in recent years. Not only has Howard Stern had ICP on his show, but the GOJ has also been dissected in such mainstream publications as the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Much of the analysis centered around their 2009 song "Miracles," which features the verse, "F--king magnets, how do they work?" The line was an instant classic and the source of much derision.
As far as controversial figures are concerned, the festival welcomes them. ICP's crowd is another matter. Case in point: Tila Tequila, who was pelted with rocks during her performance last year. She later took to her Twitter page to reprimand the Juggalos, writing, "The people at Juggalos behavior was disgusting and I am filing a suit against Them now ... Pretty soon the owners who run the Juggalos will be bankrupt. My attorney is already on it. This is disgusting behavior from men." TMZ posted photos of Tila Tequila bloodied taken after the show.
For his part, Sheen is already working towards getting the Juggalos in his corner, tweeting on Tuesday, "Heading to the Insane Clown Posse's 12th Annual Gathering Of The Juggalos!! 8/13/11 WHY..? Cause I'm down with the clown. Whoop!! Whoop!!"
ICP principals and "wicked clowns" Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope wrote in return: "We are so f--kin' excited to add Charlie Sheen to the arsenal that we are assembling to blow minds and flip wigs."
