Charlie Sheen's 'Anger Management' Lands First International Deal With Canada's CTV

After three-plus weeks worth of casting sessions, Sheen’s comedy Anger Management has cast Shawnee Smith and Selma Blair as his ex-wife and therapist, respectively. The trio will begin shooting in March, for a June debut on FX.

Though Sheen stayed mum on potential co-stars during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in Miami last month, he remained particularly confident about the sitcom’s prospects. “At this stage of the game, to deliver a turd? It’s not going to happen,” he said, adding of the Bruce Helford-run, Debmar Mercury project in which Sheen stars as a former professional baseball player with anger management issues: “It’s going to be an absolute f---in' rocket ship to the moon.”

For her part, Smith will play Charlie’s ex-wife Jennifer, a role billed as a sexy woman who doesn’t exactly have it together. Married young, she never found an identity outside of Charlie. They divorced after he spent years cheating on her, but they remain close and are raising their teen daughter together.

To date, Smith is best known for her work in the Saw franchise, another Lionsgate property, as well as CBS’ long-running sitcom Becker. The latter ran for nearly 130 episodes, making the Management camp, which includes studio Lionsgate, Debmar and the show's producers, confident that she is capable of shooting 100 episodes if the first 10 on FX hit an undisclosed ratings threshold.

The other woman in Charlie’s life belongs to Blair, who has been cast to play his therapist, Kate, a character described as beautiful, if a bit neurotic. As his former team psychologist, she helped Sheen’s Charlie control his anger. Now, she is both his friend and his therapist with benefits.

The actress’ last series regular role came on Kath & Kim, a short-lived reboot of the Australian comedy tried during Ben Silverman’s regime at NBC. Blair is perhaps better known for his big screen work in such films as Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde andThe Sweetest Thing.
