Cheddar is hitting the beach.

The business news startup founded by Jon Steinberg has opened up its first Los Angeles studio location in The Bungalow at Santa Monica's Fairmont Miramar Hotel. The move signals an expansion in Cheddar's coverage to include L.A. technology companies as well as the entertainment industry.

"We're going to bring in studio executives, startups in Silicon Beach and entertainment companies," Steinberg said Monday in a statement. "Cheddar now has three of the most significant news markets covered in New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, and two live switched control rooms we built and designed ourselves at a fraction of traditional cost for the modern era."

The uber-L.A. Bungalow becomes Cheddar's fifth studio, following on the opening of a new set at Cheddar's New York offices. "It's so picturesque," Steinberg said of the new studio. "I could not think of a better visual representation of Los Angeles and Southern California." The company's other studios are located on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, at the Sprint Store in the Flatiron Building in Manhattan and on the White House lawn.

"I am a huge fan of the platform and thrilled to join forces with them," said The Bungalow creator Brent Bolthouse. Added Ellis O'Connor of MSD Hospitality, which owns the Fairmont Miramar Hotel: "We are excited to be able to work with Cheddar to showcase the various attributes of our hotel as well as our thriving partnership with Brent and the success of The Bungalow concept."

One-year-old Cheddar, which has raised more than $32 million from investors including Raine Ventures, Amazon, AT&T, Broadway Video and Comcast Ventures, was founded as a millennial-focused competitor to business news outlets such as CNBC and BloombergTV. The company struck a live-streaming deal with Twitter last year and recently announced that it will bring its programming to cable network Fusion during the weekdays.
