China Lion Film to Release Nicholas Tse-Starrer 'But Always' in North America, Australia and N.Z.
HONG KONG – China Lion Film Distribution has picked up the rights of Emperor Motion Pictures' Nicholas Tse-starring romantic drama But Always for North America, Australia and New Zealand.
The Mandarin-language film will be released in theaters on Sept. 4 in Australia and New Zealand and Sept. 5 in the United States and Canada, day-and-date with the Chinese and Hong Kong theatrical release.
The film also stars Gao Yuanyuan (Don't Go Breaking My Heart), who with Tse, play a pair of best friends that began their friendship in Beijing in the 1970s and are reunited again to ignite a love affair in New York City in the 1990s when they have established lives with others. The film marks a return to the romantic genre for Tse after a 10-year absence, during which time he starred in action-thrillers such as The Bullet Vanishes and The Viral Factor.
China Lion Film will release But Always in major metro areas throughout North America, including its first release in Montreal, in addition to Australia and New Zealand. The move is a continuation of the trend of releasing films day-and-date with Greater China. China Lion Film Distribution previously released The Breakup Guru, starring Deng Chao, on June 27, which is still in limited U.S. release, and Emperor Motion Pictures’ last film That Demon Within, starring Daniel Wu, on Apr. 18 of this year.
