China players take piece of the Action
Real estate firms bankroll Chinese-European co-productionsMore Berlinale coverage
BERLIN -- German production and sales outfit Action Concept has found a new source of capital in the ever-shrinking financial market, signing a deal with two Chinese real estate companies to bankroll a pair of Chinese-European co-productions.
Action Concept plans to begin principle photography on the English-language films -- a kidnapping thriller "Mission Overseas" and actioner "Heart of the Sun" -- before the end of the year. The films are being budgeted at between 3 million euros ($3.9 million) and 5 million euros ($6.5 million) each. Director and cast have yet to be attached.
"We are going to shoot in Germany and China and the cast will be a mix of European and Asian actors," Action Concept's Wolfgang Wilke told The Hollywood Reporter.
The company is hawking a handful of genre titles at this year's EFM, including the thriller "Fire" featuring "CSI" star Gary Dourdan and German actor Ken Duken and "The Underdog Knight" from Chinese director Weng Han.
