Fresh off its high-profile jewel heist at Cannes, Chopard is in the news yet again. Only this time, the luxury Swiss jeweler is making headlines for releasing images of the dazzling gems set to appear as part of the costumes in Diana, the Naomi Watts-starring biopic due out this September.
Chopard is the official jeweler for the film. And the brand's co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele worked closely with costume designer Julian Day to re-create the late princess' watches, jewelry and bags, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Pieces made for the movie include Diana's signature earrings made from oval sapphires set with diamonds — which matched her famous engagement ring — along with a triple-strand necklace comprising 92 diamonds and a necklace set with pear and cushion cut diamonds.
Aside from featuring its baubles onscreen, a Chopard store will be making a quick cameo based on released film stills (below), with Diana (Watts) being photographed by paparazzi as she leaves the store with shopping bags in tow.
Diana, which previously was titled Caught in Flight, tells the story of the princess' last years before her death in the car accident in the Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris. The movie also follows Diana's relationship with Dr. Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews) and is directed by Downfall's Oliver Hirschbiegel.
In addition to sponsoring this year's Cannes Film Festival, Chopard isn't new to the big screen, with its jewels making an appearance in Midnight in Paris, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and Nine.
