Chris Evans Turns 34: 7 Characters He Played Before Captain America
From Johnny Storm to "Harvard Hottie," THR rounds up the memorable screen roles Evans took on prior to joining the Avengers.
What do superheroes, drug addicts and high school jocks have in common? All are personas Chris Evans has portrayed over the course of his 15-year film career.
In honor of Evans' 34th birthday, THR rounds up seven memorable characters the Age of Ultron actor played before landing his best known role as Captain America.
1. The Nanny Diaries (2007)
Evans starred opposite Avengers co-star Scarlett Johansson in the 2007 comedy about a college graduate who becomes a nanny for a rich Upper East Side couple. In the film, Evans played the role of Johansson's building-mate and romantic interest, whom her character Annie Braddock simply refers to as "Harvard Hottie" (Evans is sporting a Harvard T-shirt in the scene when the two characters first meet).
2. Fantastic Four (2005)
The actor scored his first Marvel Comics superhero role in 2005's Fantastic Four. Evans portrayed Human Torch/Johnny Storm, a character that could ignite his whole body in flames on command ("Flame on!"), in both the original film and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis co-starred.
3. Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
One of Evans' earlier films, the 2001 comedy was a parody of the teen movie genre that featured the then 20-year-old actor as Jake Wyler, the star football player of fictional school John Hughes High.
4. The Perfect Score (2004)
In the 2004 crime-comedy, Evans played a high school student in desperate need of scoring high on the SAT to earn admission to Cornell University. His character, Kyle, went to extreme lengths to steal the exam's answer key with the help of his friends, played by Bryan Greenberg, Erika Christensen, Leonardo Nam, Darius Miles and Johansson. The Perfect Score was the first of many films that Johansson and Evans starred in together.
5. The Losers (2010)
Evans took on the role of CIA special services agent Jake Jensen in 2010's The Losers, which also featured Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Columbus Short, Oscar Jaenada and Zoe Saldana. His character was the special forces team's intelligence specialist and computer hacker and the film's comic relief.
6. Street Kings (2008)
In the David Ayer-directed crime drama, Evans' character Paul "Disco" Diskant was a police detective assigned to help investigate a murder witnessed by fellow LAPD detective Tom Ludlow (played by Keanu Reeves).
7. London (2005)
The romance drama saw Evans in the role of a drug addict named Syd who is emotionally damaged by a bad breakup with his ex-lover, London (played by Jessica Biel).
