Christian Bale Visits Colorado Shooting Victims (Photo)
UPDATED: The "Dark Knight Rises" star spent 2 1/2 hours at the Medical Center of Aurora meeting with seven of the victims.
Christian Bale made a quiet trip to Aurora, Colo., on Tuesday to visit victims of last week's tragedy and to meet with medical personnel.
Bale, who was accompanied by his wife, Sibi Blazic, arranged the journey on his own. He contacted the Medical Center of Aurora saying he wanted to come, but asked that the media not be notified (he arrived at the center in an ambulance, according to The Denver Post).
In Los Angeles, Warner Bros. said Bale was not representing the studio.
Aurora Medical Center interim president Bill Voloch told reporters that Bale spent 2 1/2 hours visiting with seven patients, two of whom were transported to the facility from another hospital.
"The patients were really happy to meet Bale. They are obviously big fans of his movies," Voloch said. "It was good for the patients. We hope it was therapeutic for them, and all the staff really appreciated him coming."
Bale also spent time with the medical staff who have been treating the vicitms of the shooting inside the Century Aurora 16 multiplex.
Among the patients whom Bale visited was Carey Rottman, who happily tweeted a picture taken of him and the star.
On Friday, Bale issued a brief statement expressing his sympathies to those impacted by the worst mass shooting in the country's history.
“Words cannot express the horror that I feel,” he said at the time. "I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."
Last week, a Facebook petition urging Bale to visit the victims in Colorado emerged online.
