Christian Slater, Justin Long, Martin Sheen, Robert Patrick and Kimberly Williams-Paisley are rounding out the cast for Undiscovered Gyrl, an indie drama which returns writer Allison Burnett to the director's chair.
Burnett wrote the script adapting his 2009 book. The movie, which features Secret Circle star Britt Robertson in the lead, is shooting in Los Angeles.
Gyrl centers on a teen who decides to defer college for a year in order to find herself. Driven by a longing to fill a void left by her alcoholic father (Patrick), she enters into relationships with a young film professor (Long), the father of a baby for whom she nannies (Slater), and a rare book dealer with a dark past (Sheen). She voyeuristically chronicles her adventures in a blog, but her life spirals out of control when pieces of the past begin to emerge.
Also in the cast are Lorraine Toussant (Middle of Nowhere), Zuleikha Robinson (Homeland), Gia Mentegna (The Frozen Ground), Max Carver (Desperate Housewives), Maxwell Hoffman (Greenberg).
Earlier in the fall, Gyrl launched a national search to discover singer-songerwriters 21 and under in order to create the film’s soundtrack, hoping to find songs that heartfelt and honest. The songs are expected to be selected in the coming weeks.
Burnett is a screenwriter whose more recent credits include Underworld: Awakening, the Amanda Seyfried thriller Gone, the remake of Fame and Resurrecting the Champ. In 1997 he made his directorial debut with Red Meat, which featured Lara Flynn Boyle and John Slattery.
Burnett is repped by Gersh and Skrzyniarz & Mallean.
