Details on the just-announced project are being kept top secret.

Christopher Nolan's next film will hit theaters July 21, 2017.

The Interstellar director is making the movie for Warner Bros., his longtime partner. The studio holds worldwide rights to the project.

In keeping with the director's wishes, plot details are being kept top secret. The first news of the film came when Warners dated it late Monday.

Nolan's next outing opens opposite Universal's Pitch Perfect 3 and an untitled animated film from Fox. In terms of nearby tentpoles, it will open one week after the next installment in Fox's Planet of the Apes franchise and a week before Sony and Marvel's untitled Spider-Man.

Last year Interstellar, the British director's ambitious space epic, grossed $675 million at the global box office. Paramount and Warners teamed on the event title, with Paramount handling domestic distribution and Warners, international.

Together, Nolan and Warners made the blockbuster Dark Knight trilogy, which revived the marquee Batman film franchise. Nolan serves as executive producer on Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25).
