CineEurope: Universal's Duncan Clark Named International Distributor of the Year
Universal Pictures International's president of distribution Duncan Clark will receive the 2014 International Distributor of the Year Award at CineEurope in Barcelona, Spain.
The award will be given to Clark, who has been president of UPI since June 2011, at a Universal luncheon at the Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona (CCIB) on Tuesday, June 17.
Clark, who has just been re-upped at UPI, was a key player in setting up Universal’s stand-alone distribution operations internationally as the company transitioned from its UIP joint venture with Paramount Pictures in 2007. He also helped guide Universal to some strong performances at the international box office. In 2013 the studio crossed the $2 billion mark at the international box office for the first time in its history thanks to such hits as Despicable Me 2, Fast & Furious 6, Oblivion and Les Miserables.

Prior to joining Universal, Clark worked as a marketing and distribution consultant on Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and Munich, taking on a similar role on the 21st Bond film, Casino Royale. He also spent 14 years at Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures, first as head of its international marketing division, culminating in his role as president of international distribution.
“It is a great honor for CineEurope to be able to single out Duncan for all he has done throughout his career as a respected and admired distribution executive in the business,” noted Robert Sunshine, managing director of the event, in a statement. “You could not ask for a more dedicated leader whose passion and commitment to both his company and the industry have helped bring quality films to so many moviegoers around the world. This is an honor so richly deserved by an individual who has demonstrated excellence within every aspect of international film distribution.”
CineEurope will take place June 16-19 at the CCIB in Barcelona.
