Philippe Taschler, managing director of Kitag Cinema Group, will be honored as International Exhibitor of the Year at Cinema Expo International, which runs June 25-28 at the Amsterdam RAI International Exhibition and Congress Centre.

The annual award, which singles out one European exhibitor for making a special contribution to the industry, will be presented at the final-night banquet and awards ceremony.

With a background in TV, radio and video and film distribution, Taschler co-founded the Kitag Cinema Group in 1992 with nine screens. It has since become a market leader in Switzerland with 69 screens.

"This is absolutely the first time that any attention has been paid to a cinema exhibitor from a small country like Switzerland," Taschler said.

Said Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the convention: "Philippe's enthusiasm for his work is infectious and is evident in the incredible expansion that their company has seen since its inception 15 years ago. He has shown incredible initiative and determination in his quest to grow Kitag as well as put Switzerland on the map in the world of cinema. Kitag continues to provide the very best state-of-the-art theaters and multiplexes in which to see today's films."

Kitag has set new standards in the Swiss cinema industry, introducing the latest projectors and digital equipment, modernizing theater foyers and expanding the range of programming.

More than 10 years ago, Kitag launched "Close-Up!" the Swiss film magazine, which now has a print run of 180,000. It also introduced a customer card, known as the Cine-Card, which made it possible to buy movie tickets without using cash. The program has 160,000 members.

Cinema Expo is produced by the Nielsen Film Group, a division of Nielsen Business Media, the parent company of The Hollywood Reporter. More information can be found at http://www.vnufilmgroup.com/ filmexpo/index.jsp.
