CinemaCon 2013: Meet the Honorees
The main awards celebration on April 18 gives theater owners an up-close and personal glimpse of the talent responsible for the movies coming their way.
EXCELLENCE IN ACTING:
The actress reprises her role as Effie Trinket in Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Nov. 22).
RISING STAR OF 2013:
After playing the lead in Hugo, Butterfield landed the title role in Summit's Ender's Game (Nov. 1), the film adaptation of the popular sci-fi novel.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD:
Ford has no fewer than four releases waiting in the wings: 42 (April 12), Paranoia (Oct. 4), Ender's Game and Anchorman: The Legend Continues (Dec. 20).
CINEMA ICON AWARD:
The prolific star is currently in theaters with Olympus Has Fallen and next stars with Tom Cruise in Universal's sci-fi pic Oblivion (April 19).
MALE STAR OF TOMORROW:
The Social Networker stars with Johnny Depp in Disney's The Lone Ranger (July 3).
BREAKTHROUGH FILMMAKER OF THE YEAR:
Gordon-Levitt will be in Vegas to tout Relativity's Don Jon, his feature directorial debut due out later this year.
DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR:
Hollywood was stunned when Lin's 2011 Fast Five took in a staggering $626.1 million worldwide for Universal. His Fast & Furious 6 opens May 24.
FEMALE STAR OF THE YEAR:
Her Identity Thief struck comedy gold in February, boding well for Fox's The Heat (June 28), with Sandra Bullock.
MALE STAR OF THE YEAR:
He makes his second outing as Captain James T. Kirk in Paramount's Star Trek Into Darkness (May 17).
BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMER OF THE YEAR:
In CBS Films' The To Do List (Aug. 16), Plaza plays a high school graduate who decides to gain more sexual experience before college.
FEMALE STAR OF TOMORROW:
She has several indie films in the works, along with the big-budget Ender's Game.
COMEDY DUO OF THE YEAR:
VINCE VAUGHN and OWEN WILSON
The stars of Wedding Crashers are reunited this summer in Shawn Levy's Fox comedy The Internship (June 7).
PIONEER OF THE YEAR
Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy will receive the top honor, bestowed by the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation to leaders of the film industry and within the philanthropic community. Past recipients include Cecil B. DeMille, Jack Warner, Darryl F. Zanuck, Jack Valenti, Sumner Redstone and last year's honoree, Jeffrey Katzenberg. Amy Miles, CEO of Regal Entertainment, the largest U.S. theater circuit, will be feted with the Marquis Award on April 16 during the convention's annual state-of-the-industry presentation.
