CinemaCon: Fandango Adds 500 Screens (Exclusive)
The additions include Muvico and Krikorian Premiere Theaters and push the number of Fandango screens past 21,000.
Fandango is set to announce Tuesday that it has struck deals with four new exhibitors, which will push the number of screens serviced by the leader in online movie ticketing to more than 21,000 for the first time in its 13-year history.
Fandango, a unit of Comcast's NBCUniversal, has added Muvico, Studio Movie Grill, Krikorian Premiere Theaters and Penn Cinema to its roster, it will disclose Tuesday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
The additions -- which come a day after Fandango extended a relationship with Regal Entertainment Group -- means that Fandango sells tickets for movies that show on nearly 75 percent of U.S. screens, according to insiders.
"Our research showed us that twice as many people visited Fandango than any other site for our movie showtimes," said Tearlach Hutcheson, an executive at Studio Movie Grill, which runs dine-in theaters in Texas, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina and Arizona. "Based on our customer demand, Fandango was an obvious move for us to maximize selling tickets online and on mobile devices."
