CinemaCon Preview: Studio by Studio Guide to Big Talent, New Reveals
At CinemaCon, each studio will give exhibitors a first look at their upcoming films for summer and the rest of the year. They'll play never-before-seen footage, parade some stars out onto the stage and throw in a few surprises during the event, running March 24 through 27.
Before the annual convention invades Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, The Hollywood Reporter takes a look at the studios' presentations and the special guests they're likely to bring out.
Paramount: Monday, 6:30 p.m.
Paramount will be teasing several of its big summer movies, including Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction, which will star Mark Wahlberg. The studio will also preview the live-action/CG pic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Brett Ratner-helmed Hercules. The presentation should feature plenty of talent, including Wahlberg of Transformers, Will Arnett for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Dwayne Johnson for Hercules.
Universal: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m.
Universal's presentation will follow the annual "The State of the Industry" presentation. Neighbors, hitting theaters on May 9, will be featured. A special screening of the comedy will take place on Tuesday night. Other film highlights include A Million Ways to Die in the West; Get On Up; The Purge: Anarchy; Lucy; and The Loft. The preview is likely to look ahead into 2015, with big films on the horizon such as Fifty Shades of Grey and Fast & Furious 7.
Disney: Wednesday, 9:45 a.m.
Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn and executive vp, theatrical distribution Dave Hollis will host Disney's presentation, which will also cover Marvel and Lucasfilm titles. The studio's summer slate includes Maleficent, Million Dollar Arm and The Hundred-Foot Journey. Sources say Mad Men star Jon Hamm will be on-hand to speak about the sports drama, which will screen in full after the presentation. As for upcoming Marvel films, Guardians of the Galaxy comes to theaters in August, so leading man Chris Pratt is likely to drop by to tease the new superhero ensemble film.
Sony: Wednesday, 5:45 p.m.
Rory Bruer, Sony Pictures Releasing's president, worldwide distribution, will host the studio's event, which will focus on clips from upcoming summer films The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 22 Jump Street, Think Like A Man Too, Sex Tape and The Equalizer. The presentation will also touch on the tentpoles and franchises for 2015 and 2016, before setting up some special footage.
Fox: Thursday, 10 a.m.
20th Century Fox CEO and chairman Jim Gianopulos and domestic distribution president Chris Aronson will introduce attendees to Fox's upcoming films, including comedy The Other Woman, YA adaptation The Fault in Our Stars, sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and comedy Let's Be Cops. Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann from The Other Woman, Divergent star Shailene Woodley from Fault and Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. from Let's Be Cops will all make appearances during the show.
Warner Bros.: Thursday, 2:30 p.m.
Warner Bros.' presentation will feature appearances by CEO Kevin Tsujihara, president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman and president international distribution Veronika Kwan Vandenberg. They'll preview films coming up in the summer and beyond, including Legendary's Godzilla, Blended, Edge of Tomorrow, Jersey Boys, Tammy, Jupiter Ascending, Into the Storm and If I Stay. The presentation will also look ahead to the rest of the year, previewing films such as Horrible Bosses 2 and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Plenty of stars will land on the stage, including Blended's Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, Tammy star Melissa McCarthy and her director husband Ben Falcone, Jupiter Ascending's Channing Tatum, Transcendence helmer Wally Pfister and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman.
