Cinematographer Ric Waite Dies at 78

Director of photography Ric Waite passed away on Saturday, February 18. He was 78.

The Emmy winner and member of the American Society of Cinematographers credits include the original Footloose, 48 Hrs., Red Dawn and The Long Riders.

During his career he earned four Emmy nominations, winning the award in 1976 for Captains and the Kings.

Born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Waite started his professional career in New York where he owned and operated a photography studio. He shot fashion and advertising for such magazines as G.Q., Vogue and Glamour; and for such advertising clients as Jaguar, DuPont, and Hanes.

In 1970 Waite moved to Los Angeles and entered the motion picture industry as a cinematographer.

He also had a stint teaching cinematography and lighting at the Colorado University Film School.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; a son, Richard; and a daughter, Burgundy.
