McCAIN ON 'LENO'

Sen. John McCain will make his first post-election TV appearance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" this week, NBC said. The Republican presidential candidate is set to join "Tonight" host Leno on Tuesday in honor of Veterans Day.

MEHTA, RUSHDIE TEAM

Canadian director Deepa Mehta is collaborating with Salman Rushdie on a big-screen adaptation of the author's "Midnight's Children." Mehta and Rushdie will co-write the screenplay, and Mehta will direct. They hope to have cameras rolling in 2010.

STARTIN' SOMETHIN'?

Is Michael Jackson about to be booked for a long engagement at the O2 Arena in London? No deal has been reached or performances contracted, but a source confirmed there is a "standing offer with no expiration" from AEG Live for Jackson to play at the venue. The O2 is operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group, and any Jackson stand there almost certainly would be promoted by AEG Live, the live entertainment arm of AEG, which was behind successful long runs by Prince and Spice Girls at the O2.
