Music legend Clive Davis will be honored with the NAACP Vanguard Award at the 46th NAACP Image Awards on Feb. 6.
The Sony Music Entertainment CEO launched the careers of Whitney Houston, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin and Bruce Springsteen. Since his early years working at Columbia, Arista and J Records, he has earned five Grammys as well as a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He detailed the path to his success in his autobiography The Soundtrack of My Life, which became a New York Times best seller.
"His meticulous work ethic, extraordinary vision, and tireless dedication have built a prolific career that sets a remarkable example for so many who dream of following in his footsteps,” said NAACP president and CEO Cornell William Brooks in a statement.
The Vanguard Award is presented to one "whose groundbreaking work increases understanding and awareness of racial and social issues." Davis joins fellow honorees including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Aretha Franklin, Tyler Perry and Stanley Kramer.
NAACP will also give special honors to Spike Lee, who will receive the President's Award, and Attorney General of the United States Eric H. Holder Jr., who will receive the Chairman's Award.
The 46th NAACP Image Awards will be broadcast live on Feb. 6 on TV One at 9 p.m. ET.
