Tom Hanks' 'Cloud Atlas' Trailer Lands Online (Video)
The five-minute preview also features Halle Berry in multiple roles.
COLOGNE, Germany - The first long trailer of Warner Bros.' hotly-anticipated epic Cloud Atlas has surfaced online.
The trailer, which lasts nearly six minutes, is the first detailed look at the adaptation of David Mitchell's best-selling novel which was co-directed by The Matrix siblings Lana and Andy Wachowski and Germany's Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run). The film, which co-stars Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
STORY: Warner Bros. Sets Release Date for Star-Studded 'Cloud Atlas'
The trailer gives a hint at how the directors have tied together the six disparate story threads in Mitchell's novel, which run from a South Pacific sea voyage during the 19th Century to America in the 1970s to a post-apocalyptic wasteland. It also features the film's headline cast - including Hanks and Berry - in multiple roles. There is a brief glimpse of Berry as Meronym, a member of the last surviving remnants of a technically advanced civilization. The Oscar-winning actress also plays Luisa Ray, an investigative journalist looking into corruption at a nuclear power plant in 1970s California.
Other cast members featured in the trailer include Jim Broadbent, Ben Whishaw, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon and Doona Bae.
Warner Bros. will bow Cloud Atlas stateside October 26. The international rollout will follow, with Russia, Eastern Europe and Germany the first territories to take delivery of the big-budget epic.
Stefan Ardnt of Berlin-based X Filme Creative Pool and Grant Hill of Anarchos Production co-produced Cloud Atlas together with A Company, Hong Kong-based Media Asia Group and Germany's Degeto Film.
X Filme will bow the film in Germany, A Company will handle the Russian and East European release and Focus Features is selling Cloud Atlas in most remaining territories worldwide.
